Ecological Gardening for Countryside farm
<< Back
Every piece of land whether it is a tiny plot or more generously proportioned is appropriate for nature conservation. Countryside farms are usually full of cultivated trees and other crops groomed with insecticides and pesticides. Such farms are less attractive for birds, butterflies and other special wild life that can be enjoyed in the natural vicinity around cities.

Pond

A farm on Pashan - Sus road, Pune (Maharashtra, India) owned by Mr. Ajit Shelat, is an exceptional wildlife refuge though. A part of his land is devoted to ecological development. The team did bio-diversity survey of the farm first and based on the findings of the survey special habitats for wildlife were planned. Varieties of indigenous trees (which is not an easy thing to get and nurture) are planted, a pond is constructed and other big & small niches are developed on the farm. Variety of birds like quails, patridge, waterhen, have started visiting the farm regularly. This would be the first effort of wild life habitat development in the vicinity of metro city like Pune. Imagine, if all such farms could take care of the wilderness, what a great help it would be to restore the natural wealth around the cities.
