Lavasa Corportion Ltd. is developing a township near Pune (Maharashtra, India). oikos is provided expertise for planning of conservation, eco-development and eco-tourism of the project. Activities, such as habitat development on streams, seed collection, developing a nursery of indigenous varieties are being carried out with the involvement of local people. Along with this pure conservation work, oikos has also provided guidelines on minimizing impacts of various developmental activities such as construction of roads, dam, waste management. oikos also conducted 'Nisarga shala', an ecological doorstep school, in the area to increase active participation of local people in course of development. Eco-tourism is one of the important aspects of this project. oikos has helped in planning various attraction places, products, services and events for tourists based on the possibilities of nature recreation.
