Dear Nature Lovers,
Greetings from oikos !
Ecological Management of urban landscape is vital for healthy cities.
Cities exploit and consume local resources as well as global commons,
which disturbs the ecological integrity & biodiversity, both at local & global scale.
Obviously, solutions need to be provided at both the levels.

As discussed in earlier months, stress on global resources can be reduced
by changing life style, reducing needs, & by changing economic policies !!

And a way to minimize pressure on local resources is -
by managing the urban landscape in an ecological way.

Following strategies are suggested for ecologically healthy cities,
which would ultimately safeguard health and happiness of the citizens : -

Protect hills and hillocks within the city.
Ban construction within such natural areas.
Demarcate and Protect natural drainage pattern.
Complete NO to channelization of streams or rivers.
Conserve diverse habitats viz. forest, wetlands, riparian zone.
Identify and Protect special biodiversity in nooks and corners.
Minimize use of non-biodegradable waste and recycle it locally.
Treat waste water botanically before letting into the river.
Reduce use of non-renewable Energy sources like fuel & electricity.
Regards,
Ketaki & Manasi.
